Compiler error

A developer got this error during a build:

ar: There is a request to a device or address that
does not exist.
ar: 0707-113 The fopen system call failed on file
../command_pkg/libcommand.a.

No obvious disk errors, file system issues, etc.

Anyone know to what this might refer?
