AIX 4.3.3. Java Tuning?

We have a application that we are running on a H50 with AIX 4.3.3, that
Is now using Java from within an X-Windows session. It seems/appears to
Have a slow response in doing some screen updates and performing some short
Tasks. I have run vmstat and iostat and see that the system is not being
taxed.

The question: How can I tune Java in AIX? Ie. Make the scratch pad area
larger.
Or what can one do to make it perform better.
