Statement of Direction

Starting with version AIX 5.2 (Fall 2002), there will
be no support for Microchannel or PReP RS/6000s. A
list of the affected servers is in the attached PDF
file. Generally, these are servers that have been
withdrawn from marketing for over 4 years.

AIX 5.1 is the last version to support microchannel and
PReP RS/6000 servers. The current statement of
direction is to market AIX 5.1 through 12/2003 and
support it through 12/2004.

AIX 4.3.3, which also supports Microchannel and PReP
severs, is being withdrawn from marketing Fall 2002.
It will continue to be supported by IBM through
12/2003.
