Check your file system sizes for: "/" "/var" "/usr" "/tmp" they may need to
be increased. The AIX support guides mention something about this.

I am on an RS6000 F-50 running AIX 4.3.3 and every time I try and login as
root the system just hangs at "Starting the Common Desktop Environment". I
can log in with any of my other usernames to perform the functions but am
concerned about not being able to login with my root username. This just
started happening after i loaded a makesysb and restored a volume group
from
tape for testing my diaster recovery procedures. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Adam Trexler
