My fast real time clock turned out to be hardware. The time was gaining
over 45 minutes a day, far too much for NTP to handle. After swapping
out the whole chassis, HP believes it was the interface board between
the PCI and system backplane.

Thanks to Ric Werme, Paul Maglinger, Joseph Senulis, Tim Roden, Johan
Brusche and Jim Eiler who replied to my problem.
