The dates on files in Tru64 5.1A

Here's what's probably an easy (or stupid) question. I'm accustomed to
the output of an ls -la command showing me the date of a file. If it's
the current day, it gives the date and a time, and otherwise it gives
the date and the year.

So theoretically a file from November or December of 2006 should show
the year, since it's not the current date (meaning today).

Why then do some files such as the .profile files under user accounts
show just "Nov 14" and not "Nov 14 2006"?

TIA,
Laura
