DS10 Environmental Monitoring

Dear Managers,

We've got a DS10 running Tru64 V5.1B, PK5. It shut itself down last
week and in the daemon.log file the following was found:

Dec 28 03:49:05 alica envmond: A fan failure has occured in the
system.

I issued the "show power" command at the console prompt, and the "bios"
said that everything was okay and that 0 environmental events had been
logged.

We had this problem occur a couple of other times last year while we
were running PK4.

There was a Patch in PK 5 that said something about this problem and I
installed PK5 two weeks before the latest self-shut-down, hoping the
problem would go away. Obviously it didn't fix the problem

Lastly, looking at the Installation Guide, Appendix C, it says this
about OSFENVMON540:

"This software subset provides a means of detecting the thermal state,
fan status, and redundant power supply status of AlphaServer systems
(specifically AlphaServer 1000A systems, AlphaServer 4100 systems, and
AlphaServer 8200 systems) in enough time to prevent damage to the system
itself."

Nothing is mentioned about DS10's.

So, I've got two questions:

1) Should I skip running Environmental Monitoring on my DS10?

2) Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks! And Happy New Year!

Jim

P.S. This is a repost. I tried sending this last evening but it seems
it didn't make it....
