SUMMARY: vrestore hangs

It may not be an issue -- it (vrestore) finally finished. It took close
to 2 hours to get the command prompt back after it appeared it had
finished getting all the files. I'll consider this a closed issue
unless somebody has some other insight into what's going on.

Thanks again!
Andy

I'm trying to vrestore from an archive created with vdump (compressed
with vdump -C ...). It seems to finish restoring all the files yet I
don't get the command prompt back -- it appears to be hanging. It is
getting some cpu time but it's done getting all the files.

We're running 5.1A (I'm pretty sure with some patch kit but I'm not sure
which one).

Searching the archives uncovered a patch:

Tru64 UNIX 5.1A and TruCluster Server 5.1A
Patch Summary and Release Notes for Patch Kit-0001

Patch IDs
Patch 5.00
OSF520-034

Abstract
Patch: vdump command causes a core dump
State: Supersedes patch OSF520-027 (3.00)

Fixes problems in the vrestore command:
- Fails to properly handle extended attributes records in
compressed archives. This results in malloc failures, proplist
corruption, program abort, program crashes due to segfault or
invalid memory access, and the display of the error message
"error setting extended attributes".

I believe that we have applied this patch kit (can somebody refresh my
memory on how to determine which Patch Kits have been applied).

However, this is what I can tell from setld:

root@florida==> setld -i|grep -i vrestore
OSFPAT00206400520 installed Patch: Modification to vdump
and vrestore archive programs(Commands, Shells, & Utilities Patches)

Which I'm not sure is the patch referred to above or not.

Can anybody help me determine if I've applied this patch? If I have is
there some other issue going on?

Also, would I be safe cancelling the vrestore (CTRL-C) and continuing or
will I mess anything up? i.e., since it appears that all the files have
been restored can I just CTRL-C out of vrestore and move on?

Thank you!

Andy Cohen
