SUMMARY: True64 on DEC Alpha 8200

Hello Admin Wizards,

Thanks to all who replied, especially to:

Russ Schaefer, Wolfgang Rupp, Kazuro Furukawa, Johan Brusche, Iain
Barker and Joe Carrico.

Consensus was that if one accepts status "unsupported" it is possible to
run True64 5.1B-3 on a 8200 with firmware 6.6-15.

As to the assemblance problem, I was pointed to the following documents:
http://www.compaq.com/products/quickspecs/soc_archives/80737.html
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/archive/8400/
http://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/systems/as8200/docs

What I will probably do is the following:
Since the docs show that it is possible to place a total of 6 disk
shelves maximum directly into the server rack and since I have just 6
shelves at all, I will integrate them into the server and stand back
from reassembling the SW 800 Rack at all - it is too large for the
elevator anyway and we would have to bring it up to the 4th floor. Quite
a job!
Will inform the list whether or not it works.
If not, I may have a lot of spare parts for sale ;o)

thanks again

Original question was:

I recently obtained a DEC Alpha 8200 system in good condition. I plan to
use this machine despite it is outdated as a backup server, using True64
  and rsync.

Now I have two questions.
a) Are there any caveats against installing true64 4.0g (I think this is
the ultimate version that will run on the firmware this machine
accepts), or does anyone have hints on this from his/her experience?

b) The only drawback is: the system had to be dismatled for transport,
and now I am left here with the single components - two 170 cm racks
and lots of units (cpu, mem, i/o, disk shelves etc.)
Since only the "Alpha Server 8200/8400 Operations Manual" was included,
I wonder whether or not there is something like an "Alpha Server 8200
Assembling manual" somewhere around, preferably as a pdf... would be
grateful for a hint.

Hardware: 1x 8200-5/300
                1x SW 800-FB Raidshelf

thanks a lot.

YS, CW
