RA3000 rebuild problems

Dear Managers,

We have a 5 year old RA 3000 Storage subsystem on an XP1000 with
Digital UNIX V4.0G. For the first time, last Sunday there was a
disk crashing. This disk was a member of a 6-disk RAID-5 system.
The disk, a DS-RZ1FC-VW was replaced by a, according to HP, fully
compatible DS-RZ1FC-SW disk. It is now on-line according to email
notification and I can see it in the command console on a PC. I
would then have expected that the RAID-5 system should rebuild
automatically. It does not. The replacement disk is shown as
belonging to no disk system.

Can anybody help me with a hint of what should be done to make
the replacement disk part of the RAID-5 system again without re-
initializing the whole array?

TIA,

Bjorn
