Dear David:

As far as I remember, the maximum UID length for v4.0x was eight.
You could create a user with a longer uid, but only the first eight
characters were recogized. For example, user abcdefghij would enter
only abcdefgh. I believe that the only way around this is to use
enhanced security which recognizes uids longer than eight.
