Retaining previous copies of files...

Dear Experts,

We have a DS10 running Tru64 v5.1 and Advanced Server for Unix (ASU)
v5.1. Oracle database is installed on this machine and ASU is used to
provide Windows sharing services for the Unix folders that hold the
Oracle Forms and Reports.

Currently, whenever changes are made to the Oracle Forms or Reports,
developers request transfer of the newer copies to these folders
(existing files are overwritten).

However, we do come across situations where a Developer would like the
previous version to be restored to the folder. As the previous version
of the file is nowhere on the system, we need to restore it from tapes.
It may be noted that we have a test/development environment but not
another staging environment.

I wish to know if anyone is aware of a software that could keep a copy
of the existing file when the copy is done, in order that the process of
reverting to the previous copy becomes much simpler than resorting to
tapes.

Thanks.

Harihar K
