Determining Memory Usage...

Dear Experts,

We have a DS20E with Tru64 v5.1 SP2. The applications running on it are
Oracle 8.1.7 and Advanced Server for Unix (ASU). This machine is used by
all the Oracle users (about 80 simultaneous users). The Oracle System
Global Area (SGA) has been assigned 400MB (machine RAM is 1GB).

However, if I check on the memory usage (log in at the console as root
and select "System Information" from the "Daily Administration" GUI
menu) at various times I see only about 16% - 25% shown as "In-Use
Memory". Difficult to believe, though even it shows even the activity to
be quite low (say 10% - 40%) considering that about 50-80 users could be
using the Oracle application during this period and ASU shares are also
simiultaneously accessed to launch the Forms or Reports.

I would like to know if the info provided by "System Information" can be
completely trusted or should I also check on some other utility for
available memory space at that time. I would appreciate a feedback on
this in order to determine the amount of memory that can be set aside
for the SGA. Thanks.

Harihar K
