HSZ70 controllers and v5.1A

In the past, we have had an issue with HSZ40 and HSZ50 controllers
not working with 5.1a. The OS sees the controller, but not the units. We
now know that HSZ40 and HSZ50 do not present WWIDs for their units, and the
OS has to construct them. One of the pieces that it uses to build the WWID
is the "Vendor Identification" string. On some HSZ's, this string is NULL,
which prevents the OS from creating the WWID. If the vendor ID string is
"DEC", they work fine.

Now my question is, can an HSZ 70 controller present a WWID for each
unit? We have some here that have blank vendor ID strings, so if they are
unable to do this, they are going to be useless with 5.1a.

Also, has anyone used the "dangerous" command to set the vendor ID
string on a 70? I haven't had the nerve to try it on someone else's
equipment.

If I boot a system from the 5.1a CD and I can see the LUNs on the
controller, is it safe to assume that the upgrade is going to work?

Thanks for your time.
