Hi Managers,

SYS: DS10, Tru64 5.1, EV67, 1.2GB RAM. Compaq C V6.3-027.

I need to upgrade our perl to version 5.6 or later. The pre-installed
version is 5.005.

I have the tar-ball and have tried to configure and make several
times but I keep getting the following error at the make stage.
root -> make
`sh cflags "optimize='-O4'" miniperlmain.o` miniperlmain.c
          CCCMD = cc -DPERL_CORE -c -std -D_INTRINSICS -fprm d -ieee
-I/usr/local/include -DLANGUAGE_C -O4
`sh cflags "optimize='-O4'" perl.o` perl.c
          CCCMD = cc -DPERL_CORE -c -std -D_INTRINSICS -fprm d -ieee
-I/usr/local/include -DLANGUAGE_C -O4
`sh cflags "optimize='-O4'" gv.o` gv.c
          CCCMD = cc -DPERL_CORE -c -std -D_INTRINSICS -fprm d -ieee
-I/usr/local/include -DLANGUAGE_C -O4
`sh cflags "optimize='-O4'" toke.o` toke.c
          CCCMD = cc -DPERL_CORE -c -std -D_INTRINSICS -fprm d -ieee
-I/usr/local/include -DLANGUAGE_C -O4
Fatal: Insufficient virtual memory to continue compilation.
*** Exit 1
Stop.

It always dies at toke.c. I have just cleared out a disk and given a
partition over to swap so I have 17.62GB of swap. Still no joy.

I am not sure if the this error is misleading. Has anyone got any
ideas?

Thanx.
Dp.
