Hi Managers,

SYS: Tru64 v5.1, exim v4.2, pop3d v2.53

Does anyone know in what format /usr/sbin/pop3d requires the mail
spool file to be in?

I am trying to configure the MTA to spool emails into a single file.
The man page says that the pop reads /usr/spool/mail and the MTA is
writing the mails in one file per user in this directory. The
mail.log is showing pop is reading the file:

(v2.53) Servicing request from "mycomputer.domain.co.uk" at
+OK QPOP (version 2.53) at myserver.domain.co.uk starti
Received: "USER dermot"
+OK Password required for dermot.
Received: "pass xxxxxxxxx"
Creating temporary maildrop '/usr/spool/mail/.dermot.pop'
uid = 123, gid = 16
Checking for old .dermot.pop file
Old .dermot.pop file not found, errno (2)
+OK dermot has 0 messages (0 octets).
Received: "STAT"
0 message(s) (0 octets).
+OK 0 0
Received: "QUIT"

The files exist:
-rw------- 1 dermot mail 0 Sep 7 10:12 .dermot.pop
-rw------- 1 pop mail 473 Sep 7 11:40 dermot

In my previous pop server the file had a "\1\1\1\1\n" prefix and
suffix on each email. I believe this is called an MMDF format. I have
recreated this format yet pop still doesn't seem to find any mails.

Any ideas? Should I try MBX? I would mean installing from source
again so I would rather know before I go down this route.
Thanx.
Dp.
