Perl running slow after migration from 5.1a to 5.1b PK3

Has anyone experienced any problems with Perl running slow on a 5.1b PK3
system? This seemed to occur after the migration from 5.1a. We upgraded
the Perl to 5.8.5 but that did not take care of the problem. Any
suggestions for tracking this down would be appreciated.
