Hi list members,
I've spent a few days playing and searching around the cause
of a very persistent SCSI error which results in lots of
bus resets on my system.
all I can yet come up with are below entries in the syslog,
repeating about once a minute: (yes, performance *is* degraded :)
vmunix: scsi1: HTH intr. on bus 1, SBCL = 0xaa
vmunix: scsi1: SCSI Bus was reset
vmunix: scsi1: message reject index out of bounds
the scsi layout:
50: /dev/disk/dsk0c DEC RZ2DA-LA (C) DEC bus-0-targ-0-lun-0
51: /dev/disk/cdrom0c DEC RRD47 (C) DEC bus-0-targ-4-lun-0
52: /dev/disk/dsk1c DEC RZ2DA-LA (C) DEC bus-1-targ-1-lun-0
53: /dev/disk/dsk2c DEC RZ2DA-LA (C) DEC bus-1-targ-2-lun-0
66: /dev/disk/dsk3c DEC RZ2DA-LA (C) DEC bus-2-targ-1-lun-0
67: /dev/disk/dsk4c DEC RZ2DA-LA (C) DEC bus-2-targ-2-lun-0
bus 0 is the onboard isp0 controller,
bus 1&2 are on an itspa0 sym875, which ought to be HVD according to
the labels.
the system is some kind of 'cluster-in-a-box' racksystem, so containing
two AS800 with bus 1&2 being a shared bus. I removed the second node from
the bus, as I suspected a (not-)reservating issue, but with no effect.
the cables are auto-terminating.
history-wise:
I obtained this system used, and on the first boot I noticed some errors
like to above, so I assume the error has been around for some time...
to be honest, the performance is truly crippled and i for now ended up
putting my data on the boot disk, thus bus0 :)
in case You want to ask, my current firmware is downlevel for 5.1B, but the
error was there on 4.x, too. I didn't yet dare to update it.
I'd be really thankful for any insight on what SBCL = 0xaa means. I saw
some notes relating to parity issues and will try removing single disks,
but I don't think this will turn up anything, as the errors occur on both
busses...
