Thanks to Fred Serino, Dr. Tom Blinn, Iain Barker, and Blake Brehl
for their responses to my question about using the on-board Adaptec
SCSI controller on my AlphaServer DS20E (see original question below).
These folks are using the Adaptec controller for disks and Dr. Blinn
thinks they should work for tape drives as well. Dr. Blinn says
that the Tru64 UNIX patch kits have updated the drivers so if I
am up-to-date on my patch kits (I am) I should be able to use the
controllers without problems. Dr. Blinn even provided the old
Digital part number for the special cable I will need to connect from
the motherboard port out to a rear-mounted connector: BC25V-1H.
This part appears to be available from various used-parts dealers
on the web.
