Kurt Schumacher gave me this helpful information which pointed
me in the right direction:
A. Direct login on the terminal server using, connecting to a specific
port using a defined service protected by a password (NOT
ENCRYPTED, optional terminal server access password)
B. Connecting by telnet to a service assigned to a serial port (no
additional access control - e.g. not even a password, use IP
security table if available!)
C. Direct connecting by LAT (depreciated, proprietary protocol, but
alloes a service password)
