tape drive error question

Hi,

We are on Tru64 5.1 and have a problem on tape drive 1:

#file /dev/tape/tape0c
/dev/tape/tape0c: character special (19/861) SCSI #2 "DLT8000" tape
#42 (SCSI ID #5) (SCSI LUN #2) offline
#file /dev/tape/tape1c
/dev/tape/tape1c: character special (19/776) SCSI #2 "DLT8000" tape
#18 (SCSI ID #2) (SCSI LUN #2) errors = 0/10 offline

As you can see, we have 'errors = 0/10' on tape1. For the last several
days, the dumps have been running real slow or just failed to write to
the tape in the slot. Yesterday, we put in new tapes and a new cleaning
tape. Ran the cleaning tape on both drives. Then, we dumped this morning.
Everything ran fine. but the above error on tape1 still show (it was the
same yesterday).

As of yesterday, the counts were as follows:

                                 Drive 0 Drive 1

Data Cartridge Count 672 1329
Cleaning Cartridge Count 20 41
Last Clean Hours 72 72
Power on Hours 4176 11,162
Power cycle count 12 44

Should I be looking at bad tapes, some of these were fine
a few weeks ago when they were last used. Could the previous
cleaning tape had been a problem - I don't think so, since it
was used on both drives and we have had no problems on tape0.
Some of the tapes used have been used on tape0 in the past
month, with no problem. Yet again, the dump this morning ran
as expected.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Cheers,
Douglas
