Colleagues,

Johan Brusche suggested using the V5.xx device special file-name syntax
"/sbin/installupdate /dev/disk/cdrom0c". Unfortunately the system still
dropped to >>>, as before. Johan also suggested inserting the "-nogui"
switch, but this time the system seemed to boot from the hard disk into
multi-user mode.

Arrigo Triulzi queried the free disk space. We have 171Mb free in root, and
274Mb in /usr.

Also, I can add that the current PAL code is 5.56-7 and firmware 5.3-2.

Subject: Can't Upgrade Alphaserver 2100 from V5.1 to V5.1b

Colleagues,

We are hitting a problem upgrading an Alphaserver 2100 from Tru64 V5.1 to
V5.1b. The system has 128Mb RAM and has been upgraded to the latest
firmware available for it. HP have told us that the 2100 is still supported
under V5.1b. The server has just been upgraded successfully V4.0F > V4.0G >
V5.1. No patches have been installed under V5.1. We have successfully done
all these upgrades (including V5.1 to V5.1b) on an Alphaserver 1000A.

After booting the 2100 running V5.1 to single-user mode, the problem we have
is simply that, as soon as the command to upgrade from the V5.1b CD is
given, Tru64 seems to die and we get the >>> prompt:-

/sbin/installupdate /dev/rz6c

>>>

Any advice would be appreciated!
