carriage returns and /etc/printcap

Hi managers

I have two printers, an old oki80 line printer and a HP LaserJet 4200
PCL6. When printing ASCII files from the server, the oki80 inserts
carriage returns and the printout is just as it is on screen. The LaserJet
by contrast seems to think the whole file is a single line, and so the top
line vanishes off the right end of the first page, followed by the
appropriate number of blank pages.

Is this correctable by tweaking /etc/printcap? I found some pages on
google suggesting the insertion of LF (linefeed) or FF (formfeed) in
various places, but have been unable to make any of them work.
