Some replies were received to my problem - a dead disk in an advfs
domain. Thanks to : Alan Rollow, Chris Adams, Pat O'Brien, John Lanier
and Nikola Milutinovic.

All the above basically stated that I was in effect 'hosed' and that if
the drive was dead, I was dead. All suggested I try the 'salvage'
utility, however when I read the man pages on that I felt a little
uneasy - the manpages for verify say things like 'use only as last
resort' and 'use verify, then backup media first, then try salvage' etc.

As it happens, I pulled the disk drive from the shelf, rapped it against
my desk fairly hard, put it back in the shelf and booted the machine.
The disk mounted fine. I then ran through 'rmvol'. I was able to get the
machine to successfully remove the volume. (in my best Gomer voice)
Shazaam! I now am busying about, ordering a few more drives, shelf and
scsi adapter so I can get lsm going.
