the answer to my question how to get the NIC speed is:
"to check the NICs speed
hwmgr get attribute -category network
check for media_speed and full_duplex
This values are read dynamicly out of the kernel."
(Just to tell the truth, I looked yesterday a little bit
closer to hwmgr as I assumed to find an answer here, but the
command syntax was rather complex to get a fast solution...)
