Advfs problem

Hello folks -
I came to work this morning to find my 4100 4.0g machine with an advfs
volume dismounted.
It appears that one of the disks has totally died (according to Compaq
support). The light is on and solid - a bad sign.

I tried a reboot and the volume came back. I started rmvol in an effort
to remove the volume safely - to no avail. The rmvol worked for a time
and then failed with i/o errors.

So, my question is this - is it possible to resurrect ANY of the data
from the rest of the fileset? Something along the lines of, say, remove
the bad disk and then bring the volume up minus the data on the bad
disk? I really need to bring this volume up faster than going to tape.

Thanks in advance -
