How big can max_per_proc_address_space/data_size actually be?

Anyone have any guidelines for how big:
        max_per_proc_address_space
        max_per_proc_data_size
can actually be, and what relationship they should have to each other?
Documentation talks about setting both of these to 10GB, which seems
very arbitrary.

How about:
        per_proc_address_space
and per_proc_data_size ?
        
        * can/should these exceed the size of physical memory?
        * how much less should they be than the total of physical +
swap?
        * what relationship should they have to each other?
        * is there any specific percent less that they should be than
their
                associated max_* parameter?
