UPDATE of SUMMARY: creating new raid set (on SW300)

Hello Admin Wizards,

Pat O`Brien (thank you!) pointed me to a problem I did not realize.

In my case, I replaced a small Backup raid (6x2GB on 130-630) with a
slightly bigger one (12x2 GB on 120-630), Raid 5.

Now if a disk fails, everything is fine and the controller will replace
it from the set of hot spares on 110-410.
BUT if a controller port fails - and even though I use dual redundant
HSZ 40s, the risk is to be considered - TWO disks will fail, leaving the
backup set useless.
Thus I am considering various options now - if anyone here is familiar
with the HSZ 40s, is it possible to create two raid sets (120-620 and
130-630) and stripe the two of them together on controller level?
I dont have lsm on my system - looking for a reliable solution on
controller level.

would be thankful for hints in that case.

---------- Original Summary below: -----------------------

thanks to Peter Gergen, Tom Swigg and Michael Polnick who pointed me
that the disk needs to be labeled too, since it still had the old label
from the 10 GB config.

disklabel -z /dev/rz18
disklabel -wr -t advfs /dev/rz18

did the job.

Thanks for the accurate and FAST help!

-------------------------------------------------------------
Question was:

System: Tru64 4.0g, storage hardware: SW300 cabinet w/ 2x HSZ40

I had to expand my backup raid set that consisted of 6 disks. So I
deleted the old unit D200 and the raid set R2, added the six disks,
created a new raid set R2 with 12 members and the new Unit D200.
Everything seems fine on controller level; full 20 gigs of storage are
available (before: 10 gigs).

On the server, I did a rmfdmn HSBACKUP, removed the /dev/r(r)z18* files
(these having been the special files for the Backup set), and did a
/dev/MAKEDEV rz18.
New rz and rrz files were created.

I started diskconfig - but behold, there are only 10 Gigs available there.
I wonder what step I have missed and / or where the 10 missing gigs may
have gone ...

Would be thankful for any advice on that.

Thankx a lot
