Odd problems with Tru64 Unix

Hi, I'm the Administrator of 3 Tru64 machines (2 E45's, 1 E40) and one
of my users has run into a file problem.

"Here's a heads-up. Alpha1 doesn't seem to be functioning properly. I
can't run LS-DYNA on it (it barfs with an error about not being able to
open a temporary file), which is bothersome, but it seems that some
other things don't work as well. Things like 'du' which reports "Can't
find current directory". Anyway, it doesn't bother me a lot (since I
hardly ever use Alpha1) but I can see that it might be an issue for
others. After 327 days of uptime, it might be time for a reboot. I'd
reboot it now, but it seems that someone else is using something on it
without any problems..."

If you su to root, and type du around the system there are no problems.
When you go into /data5, du will report "Can't find current
directory." pwd will report "read error in .."

I initially thought it was a problem was a lost mount point, I restarted
the server to no effect. The problem is still there.

Does anybody have any ideas or help they can offer ?

Thanks.
