SUMMARY: changing password on NIS problems

Hi all,

My problem was that I was trying to use the C1Crypt (The entry
u_newcrypt set to 3 in the /etc/auth/default file), this encryption
algorithm as a bug that led me to the problem.

I solved this issue by setting the value to 2 (Crypt is in use).

Please also review the following post, to understand the relation
between values and encryption algorithm:

Many thanks to all that responded in special to Ann Majeske who once
again hit the problem like a nut.

Thanks to:
Ann Majeske;
Lucio Chiappetti;
Yogesh Bhanu;
Darren Browett.

Have a nice weekend,
Pedro.

Subject: UPDATE: changing password on NIS problems
Importance: High

Sorry,

I forget to mention that we are using C2.

Thanks,

Pedro.

Hello again,

I've a Trucluster V5.1B that is the master server for my NIS domain, and
when a user issues the passwd command to change his password the
password is not changed and remains the old one.

After this as been done the prpasswd info is updated but the edauth -g
returns the unchanged information.

If the password is changed by the root user then both files are
synchronized.

Is this a bug from NIS or passwd, or am I forgetting something?

Another problem that is happening frequently is when changing the
password this error is displayed:

              - Password not changed: failed to write protected password
entry.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Greetings,
Pedro Cunha.
