Problems with pthread

Hi!
I have an alphaserver DS10 with gcc, and I have to install licq in it.
But when I type "gnumake", I get the following error:
"/usr/include/pthread.h:328:4: #error "Please compile the module
including pthread.h with -pthread"
What does it means?
What is the module that is said in the message that I have to compile?
Or I have to compile all gcc again with -pthread?
