Hanging ps

Hi, managers

Tru64Unix/5.1A/PK1,PK4(NHD5.0,NHD6.0)
DS10/466

We have a strange problem with the "ps" process sometimes getting
stuck in "U" mode. When this happens, it is possible to identify
one process, where "ps -p" would hang. If we kill this process, new
ps invocations will not hang any more, but those that are already
hanging stay there.

Using kdbx, it is possible to view the kernel stack of the hanging
ps processes. They have all been calling table(2).

The problem is quite serious, because all our automated system
management is dependent on the "ps" command.

Anyone got an idea?
