I have had a number of really useful replies from Mark Deiss, Danielle Georgette amoungst others. So far all replies have been offering scripts which check and report on user account conditions as a snapshot run from cron.
These replies are all appreciated and if no other solution presents itself, I will implement something along these lines.
Ideally, I would like a solution which implements a notification via the EVM subsystem when an account state changes, so I would have (almost) immediate notification when an account is disabled etc. Once upon a time the man to ask would have been Jem Treadwell who wrote a good deal of this subsystem (as I understand) but I have no idea if he is still with Compaq (HP).
Will summerise the final outcome. TIA.
