Summary: scp problems between Sun and Dec Alpha.

Thanks to everyone who replied about my unreliable network connection
between a Sun Ultra 80 and a Dec Alpha Personal workstation 600au.

The general consensus of replies seems to be that the Tulip chipset
used in the network connection of the Alpha is not very good and is
not reliable in 100baseT full duplex. I was advised by at least one
person to add a Dec DE600 network card which uses an Intel chipset.

Others have said it may be working changing the setting
(full/half/auto) of the switch and Alpha. Unfortunately, my switch is
a consumer one, so I can't configure a port for full, half or auto.

It was suggested that the Dec DE600 might use the same chipset as the
Intel Etherexpress network card. In this case, it is just possible
that putting a standard PC Etherexpress card might work. I think I
have one around, so that might be worth investigating.

When I have time I'll try changing the Alpha to 100baseT half-duplex.
If that works reliably, that will do for me, as performance is not an
issue. If this does not work, I might look at other options.
