[SUMMARY] Printing queue order, what determines the order.

Hi all,
(apologies for late summary)
I had a couple of replies including Dr Thomas Blinn and Lindsay Wakeman.
It seems that it is ultimately date/time based. The job as it is submitted gets a print job name that includes a munged, unique date/time component. The jobs land in the printer queue and are processed in name sort order. As the files include numerics (the munged date/time) at the beginning of the file name, the jobs print in that order.

Thanks again,
Unless someone has more definitive details, I guess I go with that.

Hi all,
I searched the history and found 1 similar question but no answer. Does anyone have the definitive on printing order with lpd.

eg. Is it FIFO, or is it Chronological, or is it numerical, based on next in line??

We have an issue where on very random occasions jobs print in the wrong order. I am trying to determine where this may be happening and the answer to the above question will help immensely.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Wayne Blom
