Here i go with the summary.
Thanks to Robert Dege, Ann Majeske, Pat O'Brien, and Rochelle Lauer for
providing some insight to me on the problem.

The Key:
The authentication problem on the NIS client (OSF 4.0F) was due to the fact
that i had missed the auth database in the /etc/svc.conf on the NIS client.
The svc.conf man page doesnot mention about the auth database in 4.0F OS but
we have to add the line with both "local" and "yp" services for the
authentication to work.

Thanks & Regards,
Bala S

Original Question:
Hi all,
I have an authentication problem with tru64 (with trucluster 5.1A) running
as NIS master and another tru64 4.0F node running as NIS client.
The NIS client is able to bind to the server but cannot authenticate a NIS
user.
The /etc/svc.conf in the Master as well as the client have both local as
well as yp against the passwd database

Is there a possiblility to interoperate both trusted system and NIS in tru64
environment?

Please advise me on this problem and my apologies if i hadn't read the
manuals CAREFULLY.
Thanks in advance.

Bala S
