Thanks to those who replied.
I did manage to get java to work with the -classic option.

Another soln to the "real" problem is likely to be either related to a process limit , but it wasnt at all obvious
in my case in that ulimit -a showed more that default values set against the resources.

HP did confirm that V1.3.1 does work OK with V5.1A PK4 , so I guess I can wait untill the upgrade for the time being
and try again ( Im using V5.1APK3)

Subject: running java 1.3.1 error : could not allocate code space:
Succes sful, file /sys/alpha/md.c, line 139

Hi

Ive been trying unsuccessfully to get java version 1.3.1 to run on Tru64 V5.1 A
The version that comes with Tru64 at this level works OK

# java -version
java version "1.1.8-10"

However after pulling V1.3.1 from the HP site I get the following...

# ls
.java_wrapper ControlPanel alpha awt_robot java
#
#
# ./java -version
could not allocate code space: Successful, file /sys/alpha/md.c, line 139
#

Any ideas?
