upgrade from 4.0F to 5.1A

hi all,
Just want to double check information.
I have a system running 4.0F which needs to be upgraded to 5.1A
>From documentation , it says I have to upgrade to 5.0 then 5.1A.

I want to confirm this - I thought I had tested an upgrade from 4.0F to 5.1A
and it worked.
