SUMMARY: odd DLT problem

Thanks to all who replied (incredibly promptly!)

The concensus seems to be that once the DLT7000 has initialised the
tapes they won't be recognised/accepted by the DLT4000 so all the
tapes written to during the time we had the DLT7000 on loan will have
to be bulk erased/degaussed...

Hi all -

We've got a DLT4000 drive in an HP SureStore 8-tape autoloader which
failed and was taken away for repair. In it's place we were lent a
similar model but with a DLT7000 drive. Both the DLT4000 and DLT7000
use the same DLT IV cartridges.
The old unit has now been repaired and reinstalled but it will only
load new tapes, anything written on the DLT7000 drive just sits there
"loading".
We don't want to read the old tapes, just write over them but can't
get them loaded.
Anyone know what we're missing here...?

Sorry about the lack of Tru64 subject matter but this is bizarre... and
not cheap if we have to replace the old tapes! Surely if the tapes are
compatible with either drive we should be able to just load them in a
DLT4000 and write over whatever was written by the DLT7000 ?

thanks,

 john
