TRU64 V5.1 CPIO COMMAND EXCESSIVELY SLOW!

I am on a DS20 running COMPAQTRU64 V5.1.

I am trying to backup the system to install a new raid controller. I was able to dump the / and /usr filesystems but when I attempted to dump a third filesystem I got a calloc error. I decied to use cpio to save the data but the backup is taking extremely long - over 3 hours now.

The total space taken up by the directories is 6062378 KB (displayed by a df -k command).

The command I used is

find . -print | cpio -ov -O/dev/ntape/tape1_d1

I am backing up to a Compaq 35/70 GB tape unit on to a DLT.

Is it normal for this to take this long. Any suggestion would be appreciated as I am under the gun to get this system up and running again.

Thanks
