File system issue

Managers, while working we have a strange issue with /usr file system.
When booting the machine to run level 3 once booted it reports that we
have 3GB of file system space left. However after some time it
eventually reports the fs as being full. However, during an execution
of du reports that we still have space left. This is perplexing. Any
help is appreciated.
