many people responded. thanks
short answer - fibre is used to connect the cluster.

long answer with details ( thanks Bjorn Ramqvist):
>From the users guide:
Two CCMFB modules and a BN34R fiber optics cable are used when
connecting two nodes using fiber optics. Each CCMFB (linecard) fiber
optics module occupies one PCI slot (or hub slot) and is connected to
the CCMAB (MC card) adapter with the BN39B-01 (short coppercable) cable.
The CCMFB converts the BN39B signal and transmits it by the BN34R fiber
optics cable to the other system's CCMFB. There it is converted and
transmitted by the second BN39B to the second system's CCMAB. The BN34R
single-mode fiber cable is available in two lengths, 10 meters and 31
meters (32.8 and 101.7-ft)."

thanks all, now I have all the info.

Jeff
