dtfile: broken pipe in PipeRead

Hi all,

I only found one reference about the problem I just started having in the
list archives and there is no summary about it.

I'm having the exact same thing happening, although it's with the latest
version of tru64, I get this error in the CDE:

dtfile: broken pipe in PipeRead

That post on the list dates all the way back to 1997, and can be found here:

http://www.ornl.gov/its/archives/mailing-lists/tru64-unix-managers/1997/10/m
sg00248.html

I will post a summary when I get a fix for this, so that info will be in
there for the next one(s) to have this problem as well.

Basically, the problem is that with most things in the panel, it waits a
very long time, never starts the application, tool or open a folder and
displays errors about not being able to find or access some folder(s) that
actually do exist and the console log is showing that error message about
the broken pipe for dtfile.

I bet this happens often to many people, and I'm surprised not to see more
than one 6 year old post about it.

What's causing this in the cde?
