UPDATE: DS20 hanging with no symptoms

Several people have asked for a bit more information.

To clarify, when I tried to force a crash dump, nothing happened. The halt
button wouldn't halt the system--I had to power it down.

The system is running Tru64 Unix 4.0G, with recent patches. No recent software
changes have been made--at least none that have made any difference. Samba was
upgraded to 2.2.7, but that was during the time we were having problems, and
no change seemed to happen. I added two RAID arrays to the machine back in
December, but it was several months before the crashes started happening.

UERF/DIA isn't showing anything out of the ordinary. The system seems
completely dead--no responding to pings or anything.

I removed an unused SCSI card, which I think was causing unrelated problems.
The system has 2.5 gb of ram (2x1gb banks and 1 512mb). I removed the 512
bank, and that seemed to reduce the hanging from every 6-12 hours to every
week or so. Before it had crashed again, I had called HP support to replace
that bank. However, the system hung up again the day before I had a downtime
scheduled to replace the memory, so that wasn't the problem. It certainly
seemed to reduce the severity of it, though. The tech who came out seemed at a
loss for other explanations for the hanging.
