SUMMARY: HP storageWorks on Alpha 4100?

Mmmhhh, there is no clear consensus on this...nobody
has this combination out there. Solutions I am
considering is hooking it to a Linux box (if it wont
work on the 4100) since docs state support on redhat
(PCI + right drivers should work). I will think out
all my options b4 continuing with the purchase.
Suggestions for similar capacity tape drives that
would work on a 4100 and a Linux (PC Based) box are
welcomed.

Thanks to respondees......
Lavelle, Bryan; Benjamin Ingwersen, Kyle McKee who
all quickly responded to the second post....and Martin
Petder & Alan Rollow -( Dr. File System's Home for
Wayward Inodes. ) whom I did not catch their initial
responses before re-wording the post.

Unqualified or untested, therefore whether it works or
not is unknown. Therefore, no support, meaning you
are on your own if you implement such a solution and
it breaks something, or works for a while, but breaks
later or never works at all. Sometimes qualification
decisions are based solely upon time and money
involved to do the testing versus the return on that
investment.

It's possible that the platform was deemed an not
capable of keeping up with the data rate as well.

I believe you are correct that it is the connector
device or adapter. If you are running an LVD
MSL5052S2, the correct adpater I believe is a
3X-KZPCA-AA. I am certain that is supported in an
AS4100. Hope this
helps.

It's actually not the question of library, but
supported scsi HBA. You have to use U3W Scsi HBA,
which is not officially supported with AS4100

What kind of tape drive is in the library? V4.0G is
old enough it only supported DLT drives through the
TZ89 (DLT7000) and AIT drives through the first
generation.
The operating system doesn't have any media
management
support, but most 3rd party backup suites do. The
library
should be well behaved enough for MRU to work, though
it
may not have been tested with that library on V4.0G.
