Hello Managers,
We have two Alpha4100 servers on a Trucluster ver 1.6 environment
with
four RA3000 Raid boxes, out of which two are base pedestal
modules
with HSZ22 controller and remaining two are expansion modules.
The
operating system running on these systems is Tru64 ver 4.0F.
We have done striping at Hardware level using SWCC and for the
same
disks we have done mirroring at OS level using LSM.
We have two 4.3gb disks which has striped in one of the raid
boxes
(say R0) to form the 8gb logical device. Similarly we have striped
two
4.3gb disks in the other raid box (say R1) to form another 8gb
logical
device. Now these two logical devicesare mirrored in LSM to give a
single logical device / volume of 8gb capacity.Like this we have
created 8 logical devices can we go for ninth device in the raid
box

Requirement:
1. We are planning to replace the 4.3gb disks with 36gb disks.
Since
the setup is highly critical, the upgradation should take place
online
with no down time.

2. We have two free slots in the raid box can we go for new
nineth
device creation (our raid box has already having eight logical
devices
created)
Pls suggest the procedure for the upgradation also suggestion
whether
i can create nineth device or not. Is there any limitation from
system
side or controller side on the number of devices that can be
addressed
in a RA3000
Pls let me know if additional information is required.

Thanx in advance
