SUMMARY: login after upgrade fails

Hi,

I did not receive any solution to this failed procedure (original post
is below), however sometimes things seem to go okay, even for a
system-admin.

I re-ran the installupdate procedure. Allthough it warned me because I
upgraded to the same version as current, this procedure got me out of
trouble: kernel build (at end of update) succeeds, w/o touching any
files and after reboot the system let me log in.

On a second box (this being an Alphaserver ds20, also running v5.0a) the
upgrade was performed without any problems at all.

Regards,
Alex
