> Is it possible to upgrade from 5.1 (732) direct to 5.1B ?

SUMMARY:

Yes, you can go from 5.1 (732) direct to 5.1B on a standalone
system. On a clustered system you need to do a rolling upgrade
to 5.1A and then 5.1B

Thanks all - Paul.

Hi,

I just installed a new 5.1b system and am working on its configuration right
now, I was just reading the docs about this specific issue, they say you can
upgrade 5.1 or 5.1a to 5.1b

I only tested it from 5.1 to 5.1B, but on my first production system I went
5.1 to 5.1A sat there for a month because I was in no hurry to get to 5.1B,
and then found a 5.1 issue which support would only give me a custom patch
for 5.1B, hence the 5.1B upgrade. I am planning a 5.1 to 5.1B upgrade to
occur in march, exact date yet unknown. I have done a lot of testing with
5.1A, abd developed local procedure for the upgrade, and all I need to do to
support 5.1B is a global replace A with B in my doc's, and one extra y after
begining.

if it's just a single (standalone) node then yes, you can do 5.1 - 5.1b via
installupdate. If it's a cluster, you'll need to do 5.1 - 5.1A - 5.1B
rolling upgrade.
regards
Phil.

Did you read the V5.1B install guide and release notes? They have
the information you seek. Yes, you can do the direct update from
V5.1 to V5.1B (or from V5.1A to V5.1B). It's pretty straight-forward,
there are some new features, but make sure your hardware is supported
in V5.1B, there are some platforms (e.g., DEC 3000) that worked in
V5.1 even though they were not officially supported, that won't run
V5.1B (you should be blocked from updating them to V5.1B), and there
are also some things like archaic storage options that are no longer
supported and might not work (because they would not have been tested
with V5.1B).

Yes if the server is a stand-alone.
Clusters have to go via 5.1a
