Hello Admin wizards,

is it possible to create a bootable tape in tru64 4.0g?

Or, better described: is anyone here familiar with the process of
booting an alpha 1000/250 from a bootable tape?

Since several years I use an old alpha 1000/250 as an offsite backup
device. Now I got a second machine, identical hardware (just less RAM)
and I figured the easiest way to clone the original system would be to
use btcreate.
I did that using the default settings and the machine specific kernel
build instructions. The tape was created successfully.

The other machine is coming up to the srm console; I insert the tape
into the drive, enter boot mka500 [enter], the machine recons a "valid
boot block", loads several minutes, displays then some boot messages,
BUT then lines are scrolling very fast over the screen and the system
REBOOTS to the srm console again.

Anyone an idea ?

thank you
