Node specific applications in a cluster (not using CAA)

Admins,

I have a two node ES40 cluster (V5.1) & StorageWorks. I want to be able to start applications from rc3.d

Specifically, I do not want to use CAA, but do wish to start applications A,B & C on Node1, Aplications D,E & F on Node2 and Applications G,H & I on both Nodes.

I have a feeing that this will be obvious once some one has pointed me in the correct direction. Is this as simple as testing which node is running the script? Do the rc3 scripts get run by both nodes as they come up, or only the first?

I have a script at the moment to start applications G,H & I on both nodes. It resides in /sbin/init.d (symlink from rc3.d) but the applications only ever seem to start on one of the nodes?

What is it I'm missing?
